What can I expect at my first session?
Your first session will last approximately 90 minutes. Please bring your completed intake form (click here to view and print the form), as well as any relevant medical reports or histories to your first visit. The practitioner will review your health history and use Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques for your diagnosis, these may include looking at your tongue, taking your pulse and palpating an injured area of the body.
Your acupuncture session will start with you lying comfortably on a padded table. Thin, single-use needles will be inserted at various points on the body. Some points may be a little sensitive and you will feel a sensation. However, for the most part you won't feel the needles being inserted or removed. You can expect to remain lying on the table for 20 to 30 minutes.
What are my treatment choices?
Relief Care, Corrective Care and Maintenance Care are all offered at our office.
Relief Care is the care necessary to get rid of your symptoms or pain but does not address the source of it.
Corrective Care works to eliminate the symptoms or pain while also correcting the cause of the problem.
Maintenance Care is simply that, maintaining your good health and helping to prevent disease and illness.
How many treatments will I need?
For a chronic or longstanding condition the rule of one month of acupuncture treatments, or eight sessions, for every year the condition has existed will apply. Some clients notice an improvement within their first treatment. Depending on your treatment goals, outlined above, you may come twice weekly, weekly or monthly. Your practitioner will have a better idea of how many treatments you will need after a thorough consultation and a review of your body's response following five treatments.
Once your body is showing signs of improvements your practitioner may suggest lengthening the time between treatments.
What should I wear?
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to your acupuncture sessions.
